1967– The 12th Eurovision Song Contest is held in the Hofburg Imperial Palace, Vienna, Austria. The United Kingdom wins the contest for the first time with the Bill Martin/Phil Coulter song "Puppet on a String", sung by Sandie Shaw. 1961 - Judy Garland's concert at Carnegie Hall. 1969 - Opening for Ten Years After at the Fillmore East in New York City, Family perform their first U.S. concert, and the show is an unmitigated disaster. Vocalist Roger Chapman, on his 27th birthday, throws a microphone stand into the audience, unintentionally in the direction of Fillmore East impresario Bill Graham. 1975 - Peter Ham, founder of the group Badfinger, is found hanged in his London garage. His death is ruled a suicide. 1976 - Stevie Wonder announces that he has signed a "$13 million-plus" contract with Motown Records. 1968 - The rock musical Hair opened on Broadway at the Biltmore Theatre. 1960 - Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent and Cochran's girlfriend Sharon Sheeley are injured in a car accident near Chippenham, 1963 - Andrew Loog Oldham signs a contract with The Rolling Stones, becoming their manager. Oldham had seen the band in concert the previous day at the Crawdaddy Club in London. 1966 - The Animals appear on The Ed Sullivan Show for the last time. 1960 - Paul McCartney's first solo album, McCartney, is released. 1979 - Mickey Thomas replaces Marty Balin as the lead singer of Jefferson Starship 1977 - During a concert at the Saginaw, Michigan Civic Center, Elvis Presley makes what would turn out to be the last recordings he would ever make. Three songs recorded at the show would later appear (with overdubs), on the album, Moody Blue. 1972 - John Lennon and Yoko Ono hold a press conference in New York.
