ELTON JOHN

GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD

This album can be sum up in just one word, 'wow'. I naturally grew up listening to Elton, but never considered myself a fan. One day, I just watched Classic Albums 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road', and I have to say, that was the time I finally considered myself a fan. I eventually got the album this past Christmas after slaving over cheap downloads. The version of the album I got was the remastered '95-'96 version. It's totally awesome. The sound is really clean. The bass sounds really thick and rich, while as everything else. Here is my review for all the tracks:

Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding: Honestly, this is one of the greatest instrumentals I've ever heard. It's dramatic, with, to me, a 'God Bless The Queen' twist. When I first read the lyrics to L.L.B., I thought it was going to be a slow, sad song; how wrong I was! This is a fast-paced, honky rhythm and blues number with a catchy chorus. I love when he does the 'Oh, oh, oh...' towards the end. Five stars!

Candle In The Wind: Wow, doesn't everyone know this song? It's beautiful. I love the meaning of it and how it's stated. The way Elton says 'Candle in the wind...' is enchanting with the retro guitar strings in the back. Five stars!

Bennie And The Jets: I remember hearing this on the radio as little kid... Bennie! Oh, I just love that. This song is so retro! I love the acoustic when Elton says 'She's got electric boots, a mohair suit...' Five stars!

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road: Beautiful, just beautiful. When I was younger, I loved when he would extend the notes with the pitched voice. It would fill me with wonder of how he could sing so nicely... It was one of my favorites when it came on the radio. Five stars!

This Song Has No Title: This is a new song to me. It's good, very catchy. It has a melodic chorus and beautiful lyrics. Five stars!

Grey Seal: Full blown hippie music that I just adore! The lyrics make you think and the bass is totally kick a**! I love the congas at the end. This is a good song to groove to. Five stars!

Jamaica Jerk Off: Being the reggae fan that I have grown up to be, I have to say that this is one damn good reggae song! I was surprised that a group of Brits could pull it off, but hey, they could didn't they? The lyrics are Jammin' and good to sing along to. I love the beat in the second chorus... Five stars!

I've Seen That Movie Too: I love this song. I was shocked by Elton's raucous sounding voice towards the end of the song. The lyrics hold a strong meaning... The guitar and orchestra work is breath-taking. Five stars!

Sweet Painted Lady: I loved the way he says 'Sweet painted lady...' This song is very '50s like. The lyrics are portrayed well, along with the piano work. Five stars!

The Ballad Of Danny Bailey {1909-34}: This is the song that made me want to buy the album. The piano work in the chorus is honky and good, and the lyrics tell like a story. The gunshot noises may startle you, but they keep the story alive and exciting. The strings toward the end are amazing and the piano is darkly demanding. Wonderful song with swear words. Five stars!

Dirty Little Girl: The piano is kick a** in this track, along with roughness of Elton's voice. The lyrics are humorous and the effects are rather rowdy. Five stars!

All The Girls Love Alice: Hands down, great song. This song had my shaking in my seat! The plot line is dirty sweet and keeps you going. The tambourine sounds like a tin can that makes you want to scream, along with the synthesizer. The guitar work is awesome, and did I mention that I've gone to Soho? I love it there, since all the freaks live there! Five stars!

Your Sister Can't Twist {But She Can Rock 'N' Roll}: Awesome fast-paced song. Dee and the others sound like dudes from the '50s with the 'Ohhhh' that they chime. I was slightly scared when the carny music came on. Other than that, the song is awesome to groove along with. Five stars!

Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting: Wow... I remember this song very well... It's rowdy and kick a**. In Pop-Up Video, they said Elton said 'Saturday' about 43 times in the song. The bass is awesome towards the end! Five stars!

Roy Rogers: I thought this song was going to be a bad one, but I was wrong. It has that ol' time touch, which stirs up a warm feeling in you. It's classic with the western steel guitar... Five Stars!

Social Disease: Now, this is my song! I love it. It starts off soft and grows hard and loud by time the chorus reaches. I love the banjo music, which reminds me of doing a jig in a hay stack. Elton's voice sounds like a softhearted junkie. Awwwwwesome! Five Stars!

Harmony: This song will have you doing the wave with the rocking motion... The chorus is lovely and simple. The instruments 'harmonize' well. Lovely song overall! Five Stars!

Sorry, that my review was so long and boring! I just really love this album! All the songs are great!
